Opening Day
The new school year is upon us. Some have already started, but here in the Northeast, most teachers are soaking up that last little bit of summer that is left. Our minds are shifting....back to the classroom, where we belong. Our hearts are beating with excitement about the new year. That's what is great about teaching, we have a chance to start new every September. Students and staff are filled with enthusiasm about the possibilities; It's our Opening Day!! Harness the energy and enthusiastic spirit of students everywhere and plan an epic opening day that your students will not forget! Please don't: Discuss the syllabus Talk about classroom rules Introduce the book Have a writing prompt Give a pre-test Please: Get to know your students! Do ice-breaker and team building activities, set-up stations to explore, make them so excited that they can't wait to come back. Opening Day happens once a year, make it memorable!
